Amateur investors chase the shiny balls. They buy shares when a comic is hot (i.e., a character making their debut on Disney+ or on the big screen) and peaking in value. More experienced investors wait until the FOMO recedes, allow other books to capture the market's attention, and then buy the dip. Today, the market is focused on the Eternals, the Sinister Six, and Kate Bishop, making it a perfect time to focus on John Walker (U.S. Agent), White Vision, and the first appearance of S.W.O.R.D.

Captain America #323: 1st Appearance of John Walker (U.S. Agent)

Captain America #323 features the first appearance of John Walker. Walker first appears in this issue as Super-Patriot and later becomes the second Captain America before becoming U.S. Agent. Walker first appeared in the MCU in The Falcon & The Winter Soldier.

Back in late March 2021, a CGC copy of this issue sold for $900. A month later, another CGC 9.8 sold for $850. However, just a few weeks ago, a CGC 9.8 sold on eBay for only $300. That is a whopping 66% loss in value. Considering that we know John Walker will return to the MCU, this is a great time to buy the dip. Although I doubt this book will ever reach $900 again, once we see him again on the big screen (in Captain America 4) or on Disney+, it's likely that this book will jump again in value.

West Coast Avengers #45: 1st Appearance of White Vision

Collectors chased this shiny ball immediately after White Vision first appeared on WandaVision's penultimate episode. Throughout the months of March and April 2021, twelve CGC 9.8 copies of West Coast Avengers #45 sold for $1200 or more. This spike in value made West Coast Avengers #45 one of the most expensive comic books published in 1989.

Predictably, seven months after the conclusion of WandaVision, you can now purchase a 9.8 copy of this book for approximately half that amount on Heritage or eBay. Considering that we know White Vision will return to the MCU (there are rumors he will appear in Armor Wars), this would be a great time to buy the dip. While I doubt this book will ever return to its $1400 highs, I think it's likely you could see a 50% return or better when the Vision returns to Disney+ or the big screen.

Astonishing X-Men #3: 1st Appearance of S.W.O.R.D

After appearing in WandaVision, S.W.O.R.D.'s first appearance in Astonishing X-Men #3 spiked in value. Specifically, CGC 9.8 copies of this book sold for $250 or more during the spring of 2021. Five months later, you can purchase the same book for approximately half of that amount on eBay. This book also includes the first appearance of Abigail Brand, a S.W.O.R.D. agent. At this price point, I think it makes sense to pick up this book; $125 is cheap for a 9.8 with a first appearance. Also, now that S.H.I.E.L.D. is defunct, is it possible that we could see an Agents of S.W.O.R.D. show on Disney+? I wouldn't bet against it.
