Amateur investors chase the shiny balls. They buy shares when a comic is hot (i.e., a character making their debut on Disney+ or on the big screen) and peaking in value. More experienced investors wait until the FOMO recedes, allow other books to capture the market’s attention, and then buy the dip. Today, the market is focused on Moon Knight, the Illuminati, and Tosin, making it a perfect time to focus on the Thundercats, the Winter Soldier, and even (surprise) Wolverine.

Thundercats #1 has lost more than 50% of its value

This book has totally collapsed during the past year.

A year ago, in March 2021, Warner Bros. announced that it was developing a live-action ThunderCats film with Adam Wingard set to direct the film. With Wingard coming off of his recent success in King-Kong Vs. Godzilla, the first appearance of the Thundercats exploded in value.

A CGC 9.8 copy of this book sold for nearly $2,000 in April of 2021. Today, that same comic has lost more than 50% of its value with GoCollect reporting an FMV of only $950.

Personally, I'd invest in this book. We know the movie is still likely coming, Wingard is a talented director and there's a major nostalgia factor here (something sorely lacking for a property like the Eternals). Once there's casting news for Thundercats, I feel confident this issue's value will rise again.

Wolverine #1 has lost 50% of its value

This one is a little shocking, considering that investors rarely lose track of major Wolverine key issues. In addition, we all know Wolverine will become a major character in the MCU for many years to come.

Nonetheless, a CGC 9.8 copy of Wolverine #1, the first issue of Wolverine's ongoing comic series, has lost over 50% of its value since reaching an all-time high of $811 in May 2021. On March 7, 2022, a CGC copy sold for $372.

While this is still much higher than what it sold for back in late 2020, this could be a good time to buy this issue.

Wolverine's appearance in the MCU is likely imminent; in fact, he could appear soon in the Multiverse of Madness. In addition, there are very few Wolverine key issues.

This issue is arguably the fifth most important key issue for Wolverine after Hulk #181, Hulk #180, Giant-Size X-Men #1, and Wolverine #1 of his limited series.

Captain America #6 appears to have hit bottom

Another comic that may have hit bottom after a precipitous decline is Captain America #6, the first appearance of the Winter Soldier.

As you can see in the GoCollect data visualization below, a CGC 9.8 copy of the variant cover that features the Winter Soldier reached an all-time high of $939 in March 2021 when the Falcon & The Winter Soldier Disney+ series debuted.

Since then, it proceeded to lose more than 50% of its value, but appears to have stabilized around the $400 to $450 range.

It's not clear if the Winter Soldier will return in the upcoming Captain America film, but this could be an entry point if you're a fan of the character and collect first appearances of major characters.
