GoCollect's Top 100 lists always have comics that are new to the party.  More important than what is on the list is why they are on the list. This will allow investors and speculators to avoid bad choices and help collectors not overpay for books.  The following are the 3 highest-positioned books that are new to the Top 100 Bronze Age list for the past 30 days.  Digging into the numbers revealed patterns that exist for other books.  Seeing those patterns can be beneficial to all hobbyists. So without further delay, let us get to the books that are new movers in the Bronze Age market.

I.  New to the List: #1 Rising to the Top 100 Chartbuster

Green Lantern #76

Reasons for Book's Movement

This book has an iconic cover from legendary artist Neal Adams.  This book has been hot before, but the death of Neal Adams has seemed to drive buyers to this book.

Reviewing the Numbers

This book has only a few grades that we can review.  Most grades held steady except for the 7.0 and 3.5 grades.  Those grades saw a large increase from the 90-day to 30-day averages.  This is because of 2 sales in each grade a few days after the death of Neal Adams.  These two sales skewed the data upwards.  That is bad news for those two buyers. The two sales were at such a large increase that it really affected the value of these books, driving the FMV for those grades "artificially" higher.

Future of the Book

This book will always be on the buy list of collectors.  Neal Adams is still a comic book legend.  His death would not increase the value of his books as some assumed.  FOMO made two people believe that the death of Mr. Adams would drive up the price of his books. This was a bad hypothesis on which to base buying those issues at inflated prices.

This book will always be in demand.  Other sites fed the FOMO wave by implying people could make big money off of his death.  Bad advice based upon poor taste led to overpaying on purchases.  This hype came from the birthplace of FOMO.  Only two buyers bought into it.  The market should be resetting itself in the next few weeks, so be patient and do not overpay.  Rest in Peace Mr. Adams.

II.  New to the List #2  Rising to the Top 100 Chartbuster

Spectacular Spider-Man #9

Reasons for the Book's Movement

This is the first appearance of the White Tiger in a color comic.  The character is rumored to appear in Black Panther 2 and the reason buyers are interested in this book.  Investors can not locate copies of the White Tiger's first appearance in The Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #19.  Because they could not find that book, this was their next target to take advantage of the hype.

Reviewing the Numbers

Most grades either stayed the same or saw slight increases in value.  Prices are all over the place.  The 9.6 grade shows the volatility of the MCU's impact on comic issues. Prices increase as websites spread rumors.  The question investors must ask is if this is the book you want to invest your hard-earned dollars in.

Future of the Book

The perception is that a minor character's prestige is elevated with an appearance in the MCU. The problem with that belief is the short attention span of buyers.  In a game of musical chairs, many investors will be stuck with these issues.  There are better places to put your money than this book.

III.  New to the List #3 Rising to the Top 100 Chartbuster

Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #134

Reasons for the Book's Movement

This is the first appearance of Darkseid.  The issue also features a famous cover from Neal Adams.  All of Neal Adams' key covers have seen an increase in interest after the death of Neal Adams.

Reviewing the Numbers

Grades 9.0, 8.5, and 8.0 all saw large price swings after Neal's death.  Prices in those grades started to come down after the emotions caused by Neal's death subsided. The 8.5 grade is the best example of this trend. The April 29 eBay sale was a best offer sale with an $850 original list price.  An eBay auction saw a final price of $521.26 with a total of 6 bids shortly thereafter.  Even a great cover that introduces an important villain could not stop this book from cooling off.  FOMO. Be careful.  It is catchy!!!

Future of the Book

The future of this book looks good.  Darkseid is always going to be in demand.  Neal Adams's legacy was already established.  This is a book to buy and hold.  People thinking they could make a quick windfall profit from Neal's death may lose some money.  Learn from their mistake.

Conclusion

Patterns emerge if the numbers are studied.  The top two DC Comics issues that are key issues on the hot list had ancillary reasons for why they gained their heat.  FOMO once again makes investors and speculators do silly things. People tried to profit from the death of a comic book legend and their work did not bear any fruit.

The third new issue on the hot list was because of a familiar attribute.  Film and television tie-ins are the greatest driving force in the comic book marketplace. Mere rumors of a movie appearance on a website can drive buyers into a FOMO frenzy. The infected spend their hard-earned dollars on dubious rumors as a result.  What is worse is if the rumors are true. Buyers will look then to double down on these issues.  Sometimes the character's significance in the comic book world can be very small, and yet that still will not stop investors and speculators from jumping on the bandwagon.  Be smart and avoid this mistake.
