Brian Wood and Alex Ross launch new Star Wars seriesMedia Release -- As the doors to Comic-Con 2012 were opened this evening, fans rushed to the Dark Horse booth for their first glimpse at Alex Ross's stunning new art for the Brian Wood–written series Star Wars, launching in January of 2013.

Set during the original trilogy of films, this exciting new ongoing series is directly informed by the classic characters' reactions to the events in A New Hope. The Rebel Alliance has destroyed the Death Star, crippling the Empire, and is now trying to recover from its own losses and move into the next phase of their stand against Emperor Palpatine's wicked regime. The series will span the time period of the three films, with appearances by all of the beloved characters.

"Brian is the kind of writer I welcome on Star Wars. He's a longtime fan of the films, but he's not steeped in the continuity or the minutiae of the Expanded Universe," said Dark Horse's VP of publishing, Randy Stradley. "He's not afraid to do his research, but he's also not driven to draw connecting lines between everything he's writing and some previously established piece of Star Wars history."

"If I ever had a desire to write any Star Wars, it doesn't get any better than a gig like this—classic characters, freedom to pick the story I want to tell, a new series, a new number one, and the prestige of having the thing be called, simply, Star Wars," said writer Brian Wood. "Add the positive experience I'm having at Dark Horse on Conan the Barbarian and The Massive and it's a no-brainer."

Brian Wood helms this exciting new story line, with interiors by Carlos d'Anda (Batman: Arkham City, Justice League) and covers by Alex Ross. The first issue arrives at your local comic shop on January 9, 2013.
