Disney has pushed back the releases of Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Eternals.  You are wondering what is next.  Well, DC Comics may be where you need to go for your comic book investing.

Thanos could not defeat the MCU but....

Die-hard investors had been hoping that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) would return with the release of the Black Widow and production of the next wave of films.  These wishes are not happening as the full slate of films has been pushed back because of the new landscape 2020 has created in the movie industry.  Filling the void for fans appears to be DC Comics and the DCU movies and television shows.

Peacemaker versus Star-Lord?

DC Comics and Variety are now reporting that HBO Max has ordered a television show based upon John Cena's Peacemaker from the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel.  What is bad news for those who invest based upon MCU news is that James Gunn is going to write and direct multiple episodes. This means that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 should be delayed because of that work.  Investors who went all-in on Thor #165 and the first appearance of Him (Adam Warlock) should hold this issue and not expect to see great returns for a while.

Peacemaker the next Harley Quinn

Variety is again reporting that the HBO Max Series is going to be an action-comedy series. This is an unusual approach for anyone but James Gunn who always tends to have a comedic element in his comic films.  John Cena is an actor (yes not wrestler) who can handle the comedic nuances of an action film and deliver results.  HBO Max is banking on this show.  DC Comics is investing in the Suicide Squad with big hitter James Gunn.  Are you now thinking of investing in this film as well?

Peacemakers Greatest Hits

I am not one to invest in a comic only because it has a movie tie in.  I try to look at other factors as well.  If you were to invest in the Peacemaker keys the gold standard is Fightin' 5 #40.  This is his very first appearance in comics.  At the time of this article, the CGC census is less than 25 books!  This book was also printed by Charlton Comics before the character's rights were purchased by DC Comics.  If you want to invest in this character then this is the book to have if you can afford and find it.

Other books that may pique your interest are Eclipso #11 that contains the first appearance of Peacemaker in the Shadow Fighters.  This book may be in the dollar bins but a small investment may pay off because of the unusual characters that teamed up with Peacemaker and how this could play into the television show.  Again remember that this is a very speculative suggestion so if you can find it in dollar bins the risk is very small.

A harder book to find would be Peacemaker Vol 1 #1.  Again this was produced by Charlton Comics so the CGC census as of today is again below 25 copies total.  Peacemaker Vol 2 #1 is DC Comics' first foray into a series for this character.  You might find this is dollar bins throughout the country.

So what does this mean...

DC Comics is trying to pick up the ball and run with it with both the Snyder Cut of Justice League and now the Peacemaker series on HBO Max. This also hurts the MCU because their films and television shows are told in a linear fashion and the delays in availability with James Gunn could affect the timing of their releases post Guardians of the Galaxy 3.  Keep tuned to GoCollect for further information.
