After years of rumors, a Morbius Easter egg confirmed that Black Cat is coming to the land of live-action, and it is driving the market for her key issues.

Comic news travels so fast these days that it is easy to forget about the Easter eggs in the latest Morbius trailer. Besides giving us our best look at Jared Leto’s Living Vampire, a Daily Bugle newspaper headline confirmed two characters who exist in Morbius’ corner of the Sony-verse; Black Cat and Rhino.

We saw Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but Black Cat is an entirely new addition to the Spider-verse that’s been a long time coming for her fans. Before the first Venom movie premiered in theaters, there was talk that Black Cat and Silver Sable would team up in Silver & Black, but then the plan was scrapped in favor of a Silk solo project. After Venom turned into a hit, the word on the internet was that Silver & Black was back on the agenda, but with the additions of Jackpot and possibly Silk.

Whether or not a Black Cat movie ever sees the light of day, the Morbius trailer confirmed that she is coming to live-action, and that should have you targeting these key issues.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #194

When it comes to collecting, nothing tops the all-mighty first appearance, except possibly the first cover appearance in many cases. With ASM #194, you get both.

The persistent movie rumors kept this issue in the spotlight for years, and now that she has been named in the Morbius trailer, the market has become hotter than ever.

On November 7, there was a massive sale for a 9.8 that saw a price tag of $5,499.95. This produced a 30-day average of $4,689.

The better value is in the 9.0, which has a more reasonable 30-day FMV of $600.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #195

Black Cat fans will want to add ASM #195 to their shopping lists. For one thing, it is her second appearance, but it also tells her first origin story. Collecting is all about those important firsts, and origins don’t typically fall into the major key category.

On the bright side, that makes this an affordable key for Black Cat collectors on a budget. However, that does not mean it will stay affordable as prices have been on the rise since last year.

Last month, a 9.6 sold for as much as $169, which is almost double its 2019 average of $78.

FELICIA HARDY: THE BLACK CAT #1

Although Black Cat had been in the comics since 1979, she didn’t get her first solo series until 1994.

Anytime a star character gets her name on the title for the first time, it makes for a key issue. Depending on the character, that can generate a handsome FMV.

In this case, the potential movie debut is helping the 9.8 Black Cat #1 approach its 2019 record of $150 after a January sale netted $145.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #607

Cover hunters adore J. Scott Campbell’s ASM run, particularly his portrayals of Black Cat. Both ASM #606 and #607 are often reproduced, and they have become modern classics in the process.

As far as collecting, the cover is the prize for both issues, though #607 gets the nod in terms of FMV. Recently, a graded 9.8 sold for an impressive $380 on November 21. While that does not set any new records, it is the second-highest sale for a 9.8 ASM #607 ever recorded.

THE UPSIDE

Basically since Tobey Maguire first suited up as Spider-Man, fans have been waiting for Black Cat to make her live-action debut. Now it would seem it's officially on the agenda. There is no doubt that she is finally coming to Sony’s Spider-verse (and possibly the MCU). This will keep her key issues en vogue for years to come.
