So we finally have the title, "Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)". Talk about a mouth full! Although the new movie will not follow the prototype original squad featured in Showcase '96 #3who had Lois Lane working with Black Canary and Oracle, it will have the Huntress (Helena Bertinelli).

Birds of Prey and the ridiculously long name will be about the gorgeous and amazing Margot Robbie, (sorry Harley Quinn), joining forces with Black Canary, the Huntress, and Renee Montoya (the Question) to save Cassandra Cain. Gotham, with no Batman in sight after the Suicide Squad events, has a new crime lord, the Black Mask. Cassandra Cain, a young innocent girl, finds a diamond which of course she decides to keep. Unfortunately, the diamond belongs to the new crime boss.

*Yes, it is the Cassandra Cain that becomes Bat Girl but unknown if she will don her cape for this movie. Rumors are that she will.*

With Black Mask searching for his diamond and Cain, Huntress, Black Canary, and Harley sans Joker go out in the night to protect this soon to be hero. With Bat Woman hitting the CW, it would be great to have Bat Girl make her debut starting out young. This would give everyone plenty of time to fully develop her character. We don't want another Justice League or Suicide Squad rush job EVER AGAIN! Seriously, I watched them because come on we all had high hopes (Thanks Marvel!), but they were ranked even worse than Batman and Robin, and that had the BAT NIPPLES!

But since we are all collectors in one way or another, I want to show which keys to get in order to get ahead of the game. Now personally, these keys are pretty low in price so even if they will not make you millions, they are still worth picking up now before the price inflates with the movie.

Black Canary/Oracle: Birds of Prey #1

Let's start off with the first OFFICIAL appearance of the Birds of Prey team with Black Canary and Oracle. Just in case you are not sure who Oracle is, she is Barbara Gordon, post being shot in the back causing her to be paralyzed. During this time, she was able to turn into a super hacker but of course, she does don the Bat Girl cape on and off before Cain takes up the mantle. Currently, this book at a 9.8 is going for $240 being sold in July. But lower grades can be found for a very good price. I would say you could find a mid to high grade for about $50 raw, graded a little more, especially when you start hitting the mid 9's.

Birds of Prey #1

This is the premiere issue of an all-female team title with Barbara Gordon and Black Canary. Although not an amazing story, it does set the stage for how the team is starting to meet and get together. In this story, Black Canary through a camera in a laptop receives a mission from Oracle. Like I said, boring, simple story but still cheap to get raw in a high grade and good to have just in case prices do rise. You can score a graded 9.8 for around $65. Might not be worth keeping but should be worth flipping in a few.

Batman #475 and 52 #48

With Rosie Perez hitting the big screen as Renee Montoya, I figured I should throw her first appearance and the first appearance of her alter ego, Question.  Batman #475 is the first appearance of Gotham's Police Detective Renee Montoya. After a heartbreak and bouts with alcoholism, the first Question, Vic Sage, hands over the mantle to Renee. Both books can be found very cheap at high grades with Batman #475 being valued at $80 for a 9.8 and 52 #48 with only one sale on the census. These can be easy flips given the trailers look half decent.

If DC can find a way to introduce and meld all of these characters together, they survive for a sequel or better yet a spin-off.

With women being more in the forefront of comics, how do you think this movie will fair in the theaters?

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is slated to come out February 7, 2020. We should hopefully start seeing some trailers soon to gauge better where these keys will stand.

Till next time feel free to reach out to me and I will kindly respond back. Happy Hunting!
