In March of 2021 Bluegrass musician Billy Strings and his band announced their Spring 2021 tour. After months of playing nothing but drive-in venues and livestream concerts to empty theaters, they finally will get a chance to play in front of a live audience. The 4 stop tour features stops in Austin TX, South Carolina, Mobile, AL. With the tour opener kicking off at the St Augustine Amphitheater in Florida! The Spring tour also includes virtual streaming shows live from Austin City Limits and Tipitina’s in New Orleans, LA. And the good people at Half Hazard Press have created awesome limited edition prints for all of the shows! See the designs below!
First Spring 2021 stop.
First up, we have the prints for the tour opener at the St. Augustine Amphitheater in St. Augustine FL. The first print was designed by Joel Hunter for Half Hazard. The design features a silhouette on the coast looking out toward the St. Augustine lighthouse. The poster measures 18″x24″ and is a 5 color silkscreen printed on 100lb French Paper Lemon Drop paper. The original show edition was limited to 1500.
There was also a surprise bonus poster designed for this show by poster artist Jared Swafford (@swingfromtherafters.) The bonus print features various fishing lures (a hobby of Strings) and was available in three colorways. 2 color screenprints on Speckletone Starch Mint, Poptone Lemondrop, and Poptone Tangy Orange. These posters are highly collectible because they were limited to a sparse 150 pieces.
Spring 2021 on Bourbon St.
The second print released was designed by Mike Tallman (@addnoisestudios). This was in support of the virtual show from Tipitina’s in New Orleans, LA. The poster was sold as a pair in support of the two-night stream. The poster features herringbone brickwork common to the French quarter. A lighter and guitar pick, complete with ripped ticket stub and roach, are littered throughout the design. The poster is a five-color 18″x 24″ silkscreen on 110-pound Curious METALLIC Magma Red paper and was limited to 500 pieces.
Up next, we have a print designed by Paris-based Maartin Donders. The print was designed for the live streaming event from the muddy theater in Austin Texas. According to the artist “Once in every thousand years when the moon catches fire over Austin, the sky drops down and the wizard comes out of his pyramid shack to hang out on his cosmic porch all day and all night.” Two additions of the prints were available, 500 pieces of the “day” version. And the collectible “night” version, which was limited to only 100 pieces printed on shimmer blue paper.
The Luck Reunion show print for the Willie Nelson’s “Anti-Festival” began on March 28 in Luck, TX. The print was designed by Christopher Gray for Half Hazard Press. The design features iconic Texas imagery like a steer head, the city skyline, and instruments of bluegrass awesomeness. Two-color 24″x 18″ silkscreen Limited edition of 333 total, 200 Show /133 online. The poster was printed 100lb French Paper Parcel Wrap Kraft.
The posters for the Columbia South Carolina run of shows were handled by none other than @statusserigraph. The four-night run was held at the Columbia Speedway. This four-piece quadtych set of posters is based on the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon series “Wacky Races” has a ton of references to Billy and the Columbia Speedway. The prints were only made available for purchase at the show.
Strings has been a rare constant in these weird times and it’s nice to have live music to look forward to. Check out Half Hazard Press for the most up-to-date posters from the Spring 2021 tour!
