BATMAN DAY 2020DC Comics is meticulously planning their own movies around their DC Extended Universe (DCEU). It is similar to what their comic rival Marvel has been doing the last ten years. Though, DC Comics wants their movie universe to explore the idea of time traveling and multi-verses in their storyline very early. One movie, "The Flash", is set to come out in 2022 and it will be the primary movie to open the movie universe. With that, according to Cosmicbook. news, rumors are swirling on Michael Keaton appearing as one of the main Batmans in their DCEU. Keaton is known for portraying the character in the 1989 film, "Batman"' and reprised the role in 1992 in "Batman Returns". It is quite unclear what his role is in the DCEU, but an interesting theory is he could be the bridge in introducing Batman Beyond.

Origin

The mythos of BB takes place in a futuristic time in Gotham City. In this timeline, Batman, also known as Bruce Wayne, has aged to an elderly man. He has retired from protecting Gotham and his mentoring a new Batman hero in protecting the city. This new Batman hero goes by the alias of Batman Beyond. Two characters that are notable in this role are Terry McGinnis and Tim Drake. McGinnis is more famously known for the role, though Drake has a ton of comic exposure over the years of his existence. With that, there is still no guarantee that either character will be BB.

Batwoman Beyond?

In fact, in the most recent Batman Beyond comic series, there was a debut of a female Batman. Specifically, the first appearance of Batwoman Beyond appeared in Batman Beyond #37. The character was none other than Elainna Grayson, the daughter of Dick Grayson. Dick Grayson is famously known as the first Robin and later becomes Nightwing. So the possibility of a female Batman character is out there and it should not be surprising to anyone.

The Keaton Theory

Anyways, the theory in Keaton leading a BB timeline in the DCEU has some sense to it. It has been over 30 years since he played the role of Batman. In addition, Keaton is 69 years old and we cannot expect him to suit up as Batman in the upcoming movies. The idea of him mentoring the next Batman can work since it would probably be in his own universe. It would be theorized that the current Batman, Robert Pattinson, would be in the main universe, while Keaton is in another timeline. In reality, BB would not affect the main universe, but provide the diversity that the DCEU badly needs in its movies.

What about Barbara Gordon?

Another theory is Keaton could mentor the next BB and that individual would be Barbara Gordon. Gordon is known for portraying the hero role of BatGirl. It would be a very unique way of changing up things on how it has been traditionally for DC Comics. This is due because Gordon does not take the mantle of Batman or Batwoman Beyond in her existence. Gordon is known in the comics for being shot by the Joker and becoming paralyzed as a result. She would take the hero name of Oracle after the tragic event. All in all, the buzz is all over the place on how the DCEU is shaping up!
