Batman Beyond has been transitioning back to the spotlight thanks to the 2016 Rebirth series. This iteration of the Beyond universe seems to have sparked a real interest among both readers and collectors. As it is telling a lot of new stories and introducing some very strong icons, that are only going to increase in demand.

Batman Beyond #1 (1999),  (the six issue limited series) is already a well known, highly sought after book.  A 9.8 CGC slab still commands $1,500 average sales price. Which I believe is worthy of this fantastic piece of art. So instead I want to examine some issues I think are currently undervalued to the current Batman Beyond series.

Batman Beyond #18

Matt McGinnis is the Futures End saga's Robin and younger brother of Terry. Issue #18 of the newest Beyond series is the first time we see Matt don the Robin suit and utilize it to save Terry from certain doom. Making it a very big event key for Rebirth, and anything that ties into it.

Matt's Robin is very complimentary to Terry as Batman. I think they have a very cool brotherly bond that keeps things interesting and fresh as a duo. He has many appearances as Robin, and this issue had a sales run of under 17K. Putting it on the undervalued list for a long time.

The highs for this book is around $15. Making it perfect for key speculation, as it costs almost nothing to get in; and the upside can be monumental. The cover is also something to note, as it features Matt AND the suit, but him in it. This cover actually tells you what key it is, just by looking at it.

This is important to note, as covers that are designed like this are often extremely popular due to ease of recognition. A cover that tells a story is, to me, much cooler than a character in say a battle stance. This one is different. It's powerful, it's vivid, it's unique. Personal collection pick for crazy cover collectors. (Like myself).

Batman Beyond #37

Batman #37 was a big reveal point for us, where we find out that someone has been running around as a new bat, Batwoman. With Terry currently out of commission, someone else has taken up the mantle, and this issue is the first we get to see of her. This is the kind of key that collectors will turn to when the hero under the mask starts to get a fan base behind her.

In Batman Beyond #40 we get the key unmasking of Elainna Grayson, daughter of Nightwing, who is the new Batwoman. These are both great key moments that will get very big if Elainna starts to get more of a following. The same could also be said of Batman Beyond #25, as this is the first appearance of Elainna. This is more of a conventional key for the strict collectors out there.

#25 and #37 are hitting the $40 to $60 points for raw issues. #40 however, is the same price for a 9.8 slab! The market is a bit skewed though, as there is only one 9.8 for sale. This will change as more people are brought into the Beyond-averse, and the demand for 9.8's in the series become more sought after.

Honorable Mentions:

Batman Beyond #4 is the first appearance of Melanie Walker. This is an early 2000's title and has gone under the radar for a while. Moreover, it is still a $20 book and as Melanie is a big supporting character for the Beyond series; she has a lot of growth potential.

Dark Knights: Death Metal #1 is going on the HM list. Mostly because, I really like the appearance of Beyonder, the Dark Multiverse version of Terry McGinnis. He wasn't in it much, he died very quickly, and he didn't do much. But, this is a very cool idea and one I hope comes back into play. (However unlikely that thought is.)

Final Remarks:

Beyond has always been a great iteration of the Batman title and it's fantastic to see this series come back with righteous fury. But as a long time fan of the show and the comics, I was excited to do a piece on some of the more undervalued keys. I think there is still a big market for media attention on this series, and we could really use a new Batman storyline.
