There are some AWESOME auctions in the mix this week, collectors. Posters, video games, comic books... I see something out there for everyone. There are a few I'm particularly excited to keep an eye on. Let's tune in!
Event Auction #45 at ComicConnect
I'm super excited to watch this one because it is the first major cross-pop-culture auction house to feature concert posters. I don't know about you, but I think concert posters are the next collectible in the wings waiting to absolutely explode. ComicConnect has had some pretty impressive comic auctions lately, so it's definitely worth keeping an eye on some of their other collectible offerings. This auction started on Monday, March 22nd and ends April 12th-16th. That's soon, but this is the perfect time to watch as the bids start to heat up.
What I'm Watching:
FD-D18-OP1 The Doors 'Pay Attention/Space Man'
This poster features performers Jim Morrison and the Doors, the Allmen Brothers Band (back when they were still Allmen Joy,), and Gingerbread Blu in their 1967 New Years Ever performance. It's also the official last poster associated with the Family Dog series in Denver.
Rick Griffin created the art for this iconic poster, and, in my opinion, this is one of his most fun. This poster is beloved by fans and collectors alike, and the image has become synonymous with the decade. See the pill in the creature's hand? Its "Pay Attention" message is a pointed drug reference that solidifies this piece's place in the hazy era that was the 1960s.
There are many versions of this poster, but the one on auction is an original print. It's graded a 9.4, which is pretty cool for a classic psychedelic piece like this. There are only 9 of these in the CGC Census with the last sale of this grade ending at $1,400 in 2019.
Currently, the bid on this poster is $440. This is a steal for the right collector. With three days to go, where do you think this poster will sell?

This game, featuring Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere, is based on the manga & anime series Kinnikuman. And I have to tell you, it's a lot of fun. The line also spawned 236 official figures, a board game, a championship belt figure holder, and a wrestling ring playset.
Released in Japan in 1985 and North America in 1986, M.U.S.C.L.E #0 features 8 playable characters ready to tackle a wrestling championship, each of them with their own unique moves. The players can also utilize booster balls on each other in an effort to win the match. It's definitely super high-energy, and the colors and graphics are fun.
This is the highest-graded copy of this cult classic, setting it on a pedestal above other versions. A graded 5.5 copy did sell on eBay in September 2020 for around $400, but this high grade is on a different level. Complete, raw copies can be found for around $100. With the current high bid on this piece at $12,700, it looks like it's going to bring in the seller a healthy chunk of change.
- ALL-STAR COMICS (1940-78) #3 CGC 9.4
Alright guys, this is one I'm REALLY looking forward to watching. This book has white pages, it's QES certified - criteria met: preferred staple placement + exceptional staple area + perfect spine + perfect cover edges, and it's the second-highest graded 1 of 1!
This iconic book gave us the Justice Society of America. Its cover is instantly recognizable as a milestone of the Golden Age. In this book, you get the origin and first appearance of the Justice Society of America. G.A. Flash joins the team, Dr. Fate and The Atom begins, and there's even a cameo by Red Tornado. This book has everything and is accurately regarded as one of the most important comics of all time. One could even speculate that WITHOUT this book, we wouldn't have known the likes of Fantastic Four or The Avengers.
"Standing alone as the second-best example of this book on the CGC census, this exemplary copy depicts the first appearance of the Justice Society of America in all their glory. The colors beam with only the slightest hint of age, which is quite a notable feat for a comic with an 80-year vintage. Considering everything that could have transpired in that time, this book is practically a superhero unto itself. The QES sticker further quantifies this example of All-Star #3 as a comic that will be the subject of heavyweight bidding as we expect to see a new record set." - ComicConnect
Sale prices of this book are currently up in every grade. A CGC restored 8.0 went for 15,850 just last month. All the way back in 2002, a CGC graded 9.6 pulled in $126,500. At the time of this writing, the high bid on THIS book is $283,000. Given how huge a following this book has, it's an excellent catch for the right person.

REA SPRING 2021 at Robert Edward Auctions
Has there ever been a time when baseball cards weren't a great collectible? Lately, I feel like they're seeing a real resurgence, with prices of both vintage and modern cards shooting through the ceiling. This auction has a couple of really nice cards that I only wish I could afford to bid on. Maybe I'll win the lottery?
What I'm Watching:
-1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle PSA NM 7
It doesn't get more Cracker Jack than Mickey Mantle. We all know him. Most of us love him. Whichever party you're in, I think we all can agree that he's an American icon.
Mickey Mantle played for the New York Yankees from 1951 to 1968 and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974. Mantle made it from the dirt-poor fields of Oklahoma to reach Yankee Stadium. “The Mick” patrolled center field and batted clean-up between 1951 and 1968, helping the Yankees win 12 American League pennants and seven World Series. He is undeniably one of the superstars of the second half of the 20th century.

SportsCard collecting is on fire right now. A lot of people are getting into the game, and cards this nice will get snapped right up.
The current bid on this card is $175,000.00. This is slightly under the prices I've seen for a card of this grade, but with 9 days to go until this auction closes, it'll be interesting to see if it ends up flying out of the park.

Heritage has presented us with some pretty epic auctions over the years. 2021 is setting itself up to be no different!
What I'm Watching:
-Giant-Size X-Men #1 (Marvel, 1975) CGC NM 9.4 White pages
I don't really need to explain why this book could bring in the big bucks. It gives us the first appearance of the new X-Men (Nightcrawler, Storm, Colossus, and Thunderbird), and the second full appearance of Wolverine. The Gil Kane and Dave Cockrum cover is vibrant and eye-catching, and the Cockrum art inside lives up to the high standard we'd expect from a book like this.
In this grade, this book has been climbing up the value ladder steadily all year. The most recent sale I can find was through Heritage on April 4th for $14,400. This is vastly different from the FMV, which is hanging out at $7,500. Previously, it sold on eBay for $9,300 in February and $6,600 in December 2020.
Currently, it's ranked at #9 on Overstreet's list of Top 10 Bronze Age Comics. Overstreet 2020 NM- 9.2 value = $2,300. CGC census 4/21: 550 in 9.4, 563 higher.
As of this writing, this book's high bid is $8,250. As noted by GoCollect blogger Norman, this book is flying up in value.
