Three items in this week's Goldin auction caught my attention. This auction ends soon -- on Thursday night, so check out Goldin's site soon!

Journey Into Mystery #83 CGC NG, Off-White Pages

For those of you who can't purchase a copy of Journey Into Mystery #83, which contains the first appearance of Thor, this auction presents an opportunity to own a copy of this blue chip Silver Age key issue. Sure, this copy is missing its cover, but I can't even afford a CGC 0.5 copy of this issue.

According to GoCollect, the FMV of a 0.5 copy is $3,900. Unlike most comics, a 0.5 has held much of its value even after the comic collecting bubble burst in 2022. In April of 2021, at the height of the comic boom, a 0.5 copy sold for $3,950. Just four months ago, another 0.5 sold on Heritage for a solid $3,480. Unlike many Silver, Bronze, Copper, and Modern Age books that lost a ton of their value in 2022, this book still sells for a premium.

At the time of this writing, the current bid for this book is $210. I'm sure it'll sell for many times that amount by Thursday night, but it might sell within a range that you might actually be able to afford.

Raphael #1 CGC Qualified 8.0 – 1st Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Spin-Off, 1st Appearance of Casey Jones, Signed "Kevin Eastman"

This intriguing item caught my attention. At first glance, you might think this book would sell for a low amount because it received the dreaded green "Qualified" label from CGC. BUT when you take a closer look at it, you see it only received this grade because of "NAME & SKETCH WRITTEN ON COVER IN MARKER." Upon closer examination, the person who wrote that name and drew that sketch is alleged to be none other than Kevin Eastman himself.

Of course, the signature and drawing could be fraudulent. You could always crack this case and submit it to CBCS for their signature verification service. If it comes back a yellow label, you could receive a solid ROI assuming you can purchase it for a decent price through this auction.

X-Men #1 CGC Signature Series 9.8 – Gatefold Cover, Signed by Chris Claremont, Jim Lee, and Scott Williams

I know, I know. Marvel printed millions of copies of this book and you can still find copies in dollar bins. On the other hand, Chris Claremont, Jim Lee, and Scott Williams all signed this book which actually makes it pretty rare. Specifically, the CGC Census lists 1,089 9.8 Signature Series copies of this book; however, only a fraction of those were signed by ALL three creators. Although the Census does not identify exactly how many were signed by all three, my educated guess is that only a few hundred 9.8s were.

Getting all three and having those signatures verified isn't that easy unless you pay CBCS for its verification service. The last 9.8 that all three signed sold for $660 in late February.

At the time of this writing (February 27th), the current bid was $31. It'll sell higher for than for sure, but this auction presents an opportunity to purchase this book below FMV.
