December 21, 2006 -- Archie and the gang are getting real.

No, the beloved comic-book characters aren't tackling teen pregnancy or drug abuse, but they are getting a more realistic makeover for several issues this spring, when Archie Comics debuts the gang's new look. It's the most radical redesign for Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge and Forsythe "Jughead" Jones since the late 1950s, when artist Dan DeCarlo perfected their now-classic big-eyed, square-nosed looks.

"Several of our readers have sent in e-mails saying, 'Why is Archie still looking like he has been for 65 years?' So we decided to try something different," Archie publisher Michael Silberkleit told The Post.
