Cassian is back with his own Disney+ show, and that has lit a collecting fire under those Andor key issues.

As of this writing, Andor’s fourth episode was ready to drop, and the Star Wars show has been creating plenty of buzz. Tonally, it has a much different feel than the other SW Disney+ entries, with Andor being a more mature show compared to Kenobi, which was mostly aimed at younger viewers. Then again, would we expect anything different? Next to Empire Strikes Back, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story remains the franchise’s most mature film to date. Many fans also consider it to be the best SW movie, and Andor appears to be following suit as the best SW Disney+ entry.

All this attention on the new show has collectors on the hunt for key issues, beginning with these.

STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE ADAPTATION #1

When it comes to anything that has spun out of Rogue One, the collecting begins and ends with the comic adaptation. Here you get the first appearances of all the major characters from the film. To this point, it had been a dead end, collecting-wise, but Andor has changed that trajectory. Will we see more spinoffs with those other characters, most notably Jyn Erso? That would easily make this one of the hottest Star Wars comics on the market.

Thanks to Andor, it’s been getting plenty of attention. For the past month, the graded 9.8 has held its fair market value at $147, though the last two copies sold have been for $150+, and September 13 saw one bring $167.

STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE ADAPTATION #1 (MOVIE VARIANT)

There are several variants for the first issue of Rogue One and far too many to detail each one in today’s post. Instead, let’s focus on those that have Cassian on the cover image, which narrows the field considerably.

First up is the movie variant with the film’s main theatrical release poster as the cover art. Movie variants are highly collectible among Modern Age collectors. Graded at a 9.8, this particular issue has earned as much as $455 in the past year. For the past month, it’s averaged a respectable $249.

STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE ADAPTATION #1 (WALMART EDITION)

This is another movie variant, only this particular item was sold exclusively through the retail giant, Walmart. Since the chain began carrying comics again, many of the Walmart variants have become collectors’ gold in recent years. Prices vary widely for the graded 9.8. Dating back to 2018, it typically brought about $200. Starting last year, it cracked the $800 mark, and it’s sold for a record $835 in 2022.

STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE - CASSIAN & K-2SO SPECIAL #1

When it comes to modern collecting, those first solo titles are all the rage. While he may share the marquee with everyone’s favorite droid (sorry, R2D2 and C-3PO, but K-2SO was a much better character than either of you), Cassian’s first top billing came in 2017’s Rogue One - Cassian & K-2SO Special #1. With his new show getting rave reviews, it should have collectors on the lookout for this issue.

So far, there hasn’t been much demand for Cassian & K-2SO #1, but that should soon change. The new show will likely establish him as a star in his own right as the character is demonstrating the popularity needed to carry his own spinoff franchise. That makes the $118 price tag for a 9.8 not a bad investment.

SPOILER: HE DIES

Not to ruin things for you, but Cassian isn’t going to be available for too many seasons of Andor. By the nature of Rogue One, everyone died by the end of that movie. Still, if his show becomes popular enough, Disney may find ways to lengthen his story through more pre-Rogue One adventures. There’s no better place to mine the territory than by the comics, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Cassian star in a new series sometime in the next year.
