Whether you're a seasoned Moon Knight collector or a newfound fan, chances are you have been chasing down his major and more well-known keys in the past few years. We all know which books those are: Werewolf By Night #32, Marvel Spotlight #28, and Moon Knight #1. However, there is a whole wide world of cool Moon Knight comics out there. Read on - hopefully you will enjoy these rare variants as much as I do.

Cult Following Prices

Moon Knight is easily a top three Marvel character for me, if that isn't obvious from my multiple blogs about him. I am not alone; Moon Knight notoriously has a cult following of die-hard devotees that has only gotten bigger since the announcement of his series on Disney+.

If you're one of these super fans and fashion yourself a completist collector, this is the blog for you.

Some of these variants command prices as high as Moon Knight's major keys because of their rarity and his hardcore fan base, but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate them here. If anything, this will give those of you with deeper pockets a new white whale to chase down. Let's take a look.

Vengeance of the Moon Knight #1 (Virgin Finch Variant)

David Finch is neck and neck with Bill Sienkiewicz as the greatest Moon Knight artist of all time, and if there ever was a comic that made the case for Finch to have the top spot all to himself, Vengeance of the Moon Knight #1 might be it.

I have to admit, I am writing about this virgin variant strictly out of my appreciation for its cover, as it is nearly unattainable. This variant was only given out to Marvel Retailer Resource Center members and the print run is thought to be in the hundreds. There are only seven, yes that's right, seven total copies on the CGC census and only four of those are 9.8s. The last sale was for 5k in 2021. Oof.

Finch's art here is absolutely stunning. I am a sucker for Miller-esque noir imagery reminiscent of 1980's New York City; this comic fits the bill. You really can't miss with lots of rain, lightning, pipes, and brick. Moon Knight's crouching position fills you with fear and dread. He is stalking his prey and poised to pounce, possibly to carve up someone's face. If you have one of these, I am extremely jealous.

I also want to note that there is a Non-Virgin version of this cover that was a 1:20 incentive variant. It is also very rare with only 68 Universal 9.8s and 86 total copies on the CGC census. It is a more affordable, but still awesome, option with an FMV of $325. If you have one of these, I am still very jealous.

Moon Knight #1 (Sienkiewicz Variant)

There is no way I was making a list of rare Moon Knight variants and not including Bill Sienkiewicz. Sienkiewicz is not only one of the best Moon Knight artists but one of the best in the business, period.

This Sienkiewicz Variant for Moon Knight #1 from 2014 is a gem. It was a 1:75 incentive variant from a series with a relatively low print run. There aren't a lot of these as there are only 124 total on the CGC census, 44 of them being 9.8s. The demand for this variant is evident, with the last two sales going over 2k for a 9.8.

Moon Knight is such a likeable character because he is multifaceted and frankly a little bit weird. One of the cooler aspects to his lore is the Egyptian mythology and this cover catches that angle perfectly.

The only thing better than Moon Knight is Moon Knight sitting on a throne. An added bonus for this issue is the first appearance of the Mr. Knight persona coming to Disney+. If you somehow find one of these for cheap, I would grab it immediately.

Moon Knight #6 (Bloody Variant)

More Finch! The "Bloody Variant" for Moon Knight #6 is simply badass and sums up Moon Knight and his tenacity in a nutshell. I hope we see Moon Knight tattered and bloody in the upcoming series as he is meant to be.

There are only 93 Universal 9.8s on the CGC census, making this book pretty rare, and with an FMV of $230, this option is very accessible compared to the ones I mentioned before. I think this comic is an excellent pick-up, although I am admittedly biased.

I would highly recommend reading the 2006 Charlie Huston/Finch series if you have the time. Their run is my favorite other than the original Dough Moench/Sienkiewicz series. Also, for the sake of being thorough, check out Mico Suayan's recent homage to the "Bloody Knuckle" variant in the current ongoing series.

It is always a good sign for a comic's FMV when it starts to get nods from other artists. This is a future classic for sure.
