The character of Spider-Man has become more popular in the last couple of years. In addition, with the release of numerous live-action and animated movies over the years, it appears the popularity has grown so big that other spider characters are being introduced other than Spider-Man. The Venom movie with Tom Hardy and the recent animated Spider-Verse film has provided Sony confidence to expand its universe. These examples have been big hits at the movie box office. Sony has many characters to choose at their disposal and would want to diversify their character lineup in movies. It is a trend that Marvel has been doing for a while in their movies and fans have responded well.  Below are some characters who might be making a debut in the Sony Spider-Verse in the very near future.

Anya/Arana

Arana's first appearance was in Amazing Fantasy #1 (vol. 2).  Her name, which is the Spanish word for spider also has a codename of Anya Corazon. With high speculation of a Sony Silk film being made, more spider characters such as Arana could be introduced. The other key issue for this character is The Amazing Spider-Man #637. It is an important issue for her and other characters. For Anya, this is when she becomes Spider-Girl. It is very possible she could make her debut with the shift of diversity Marvel is planning for the future. Arana is of Hispanic origin and would provide more variety within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Two important events happen in this issue as well. The death of Madame Webb takes place and the first appearance of the second Madame Webb occurs. The second Madame Webb is Julia Carpenter.

Mayday Parker

It would be stupid of me not to mention the original child of Spider-man in this blog for speculative spider characters. Mayday Parker is the child of Peter Parker and Mary Jane. Her first appearance is in What If...? #105. She also takes up the mantle of Spider-Girl in defending New York in the same manner as her father. She would live the double life by balancing her school life while fighting crime against powerful villains. I would like to mention that Mayday is not the only child of Peter Parker, but one of the first introduced in the comics. Albeit, she does appear in an alternate timeline.

Julia Carpenter

Julia Carpenter was mentioned a little bit in the Arana breakdown. In the comics, she takes on different hero identities throughout her life. Titles that include Spider-Woman, Madame Webb, and Arachne. According to Deadline.com, Sony is planning to make a female-centered spider-character movie, with the high speculation it would be Jessica Drew as Spider-Woman. Sony has chosen Olivia Wilde to direct the film.

I am thinking that this movie could involve Carpenter and not Drew. Carpenter becomes the second Spider-Woman in Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #7. Another key reason why Carpenter is a good choice is due to her involvement in the Secret Wars storyline. According to Nerdist.com, the Russo brothers would think of coming back to Marvel to direct the Secret Wars movie due to their obsession with what happens during this time. The Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, were the directors of the highly successful Avengers movies during the Infinity Saga. In the end, her connection to the Secret Wars saga and her different hero roles makes her a great candidate to appear in the Sony Spider-Verse.
