Since a brief, blink and you’ll miss it cameo in the first Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014 and a name-drop in the sequel, Marvel fans have been desperate to see Adam Warlock in live-action glory. Well, turns out we won’t have to wait much longer as Adam Warlock is finally making his MCU debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Who Is Adam Warlock?

Warlock_MCU_Debut

Adam Warlock, also known as Him, first appeared in Fantastic Four #66 before receiving his full name and origin a few years later in Marvel Premiere #1. Warlock was created by the Enclave, who sought to create the perfect being. Warlock has gone on to become one of the most powerful Marvel heroes, eventually becoming a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

On October 12th, James Gunn officially confirmed the casting of We’re The Millers and Detroit star, Will Poulter. Gunn has been a fan of the character for years, he even included Warlock in early drafts of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, before deciding to make the film smaller, and more focused on Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill and his relationship to Ego, the Living Planet, portrayed by Kurt Russell.

With an actor in place, we finally know that Warlock will be a rather integral and important component of the upcoming threequel. As such, I think it is time we take a look at Warlock’s key issues, and see if those books are cheap enough to jump on, join me, why don’t you?

Adam Warlock Is Finally Making His MCU Debut

Him_MCU

As previously mentioned, Warlock made his comic book debut back in Fantastic Four #66. Of course, this appearance was nothing more than a cameo, with Fantastic Four #67 and Thor #165 showing the perfect being in all his blonde, chiseled abs glory! In January, a 9.8 grade of Fantastic Four #66 sold for a record high of $20,000 (USD), while a 9.4 sold for a mere $950 (USD).

The character’s second appearance, an issue later, recently had a 9.8 grade sell in August for a whopping $25,000 (USD). Unlike Fantastic Four #66, a 9.4 grade sells for a pretty penny, with one selling for just under $3,000 (USD) in July.

Warlock's most overlooked appearance, however, comes in the form of Thor #165, which is making waves over on eBay at the moment. A 9.8 grade of Thor #165 last sold in December of 2019 for over $35,000 (USD).

If we take a look at Marvel Premiere #1, a 9.4 grade sold in September for $1,500 (USD), with a 9.8 last selling in 2018 for $16,000 (USD).

The Perfect Being

On eBay at the moment, there are hundreds of copies of Fantastic Four #66, #67 and Marvel Premiere #1, with grades ranging from as low as a 3.0 all the way to high 9s. Mycomicbookshop.com has multiple grades of all those issues at reasonable prices, especially with the comics destined to boom over the next few years. As far as which of the three I would pick up? Well, I'm a simple guy, so Fantastic Four #67 and Thor #165 are my picks. However, I can't imagine either Fantastic Four #66 or Marvel Premiere #1 will at all lose you money.

I actually picked up an ungraded copy of Fantastic Four #67 back in 2019 for a mere $60 (USD). After sending the book over to CGC for grading, the thing came back as a 7.0. I knew that Warlock was inevitably going to appear in one of these films, and I jumped on it. I would get on the Warlock train before it zooms well past the station, and with Poulter’s casting a few days ago, I actually hear the train pulling in.
