An Apology

From President Dave Dwonch and the Action Lab Board

Action Lab Comics recently sent out a press release regarding our promotion through Comixology in honor of Black History Month. It came to our attention that in our rush to get the information out we made an egregious omission in the release. We would like to formally apologize for our mistake.

As many of you know, "Dean" Tee of VixenVarsity.com (@MizCaramelVixen on twitter) has been the unstoppable driving force behind the amazing initiative to celebrate and promote diversity in comics that is #BlackComicsMonth. For any who don't know, starting in February of 2015 #BlackComicsMonth has highlighted tons of black creators and black comic book characters. Tee took on a spectacular amount of work to get the word out. When February of 2015 ended, she wasn't nearly ready to stop and has made every month of the last year Black Comics Month. Over that time, Tee and #BlackComicsMonth have been instrumental in promoting several of Action Lab's books from Princeless to Nutmeg to Cash and Carrie. She even went so far as to include Action Lab writers Shawn Pryor and Jeremy Whitley on her NYCC #BlackComicsMonth panel.

Her most recent accomplishment was working dauntlessly to put together this promotion between Action Lab and Comixology. Tee worked on the behalf of Action Lab and potential comics readers to make these issues of Action Lab comics available to try for free. When the time came to put out our press release, we rushed to spread the word, ultimately failing to credit Tee and #BlackComicsMonth. This was our mistake. We are absolutely distraught over this and the hurt it caused Tee, her site, and #BlackComicsMonth. It has always been part of Action Lab's mission to promote diversity on and behind the page and we consider Tee a kindred spirit. In fact, our missions have aligned so closely over the last year that several of us consider her part of our family, just as she has made us part of the #BlackComicsMonth family.

So, to Tee, we want to say that we are sorry. Action Lab is nothing without our fans-- many of which we owe to Tee. We encourage everyone to follow her and #BlackComicsMonth. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to continue to work with her in the future.

Sincerely,

Dave Dwonch
President
