One of our fabulous readers asked for key Werewolf By Night books. Considering Werewolf is part of one of my favorite teams, the Midnight Sons, how could I not! So let’s dive in and see which keys you should put on your radar…

Before anything, let’s learn real quick who Werewolf By Night is. His real name is Jacob Russoff, but he had it legally changed to Jack Russell. Due to a family curse, on every full moon Jack sheds his mortal skin to become Werewolf By Night. He has worked with other heroes besides the Midnight Sons such as Iron Man, Spider-Woman, and Legion of Monsters. With the help of “The Three Who Are All” his curse was partially lifted, allowing him to transform at will while keeping his human mind. Now, let’s get to the good stuff!

5 Key Werewolf By Night Books You Need

Marvel Spotlight #2 (1st Appearance of Werewolf By Night)

There is some speculation that Werewolf will appear in either the Moon Night series or in another project down the line. With that said, there is no better book than his first appearance. The only thing better than the red cover is the gorgeous artwork by Neal Adams. Currently, there are no books graded above a 9.6, with that grade holding an FMV of $4,100. Jump a few grades down to a 7.0 and Marvel Spotlight #2 becomes feasible with an FMV of $300.

Marvel Spotlight #4 (3rd Appearance of Werewolf By Night / 1st Appearance of the Darkhold)

Marvel Spotlight #4  is a two-for-one with the 3rd time seeing Werewolf and the 1st appearance of the evil book of spells, the Darkhold. If the first appearance is out of reach for you, then always go for the second or in this case, the third appearance. Still a key with only about half the costs! Plus, with WandaVision focusing on the Darkhold in the end and Morbius coming out soon, who knows what will happen? The FMV for a 9.8 is $4,000 but you can score a nice 7.0 for $200. I wouldn’t say stack up on these, but having one or three wouldn’t hurt.

Werewolf By Night #1 (Premiere Issue)

Marvel Spotlight #4 marked the last appearance of Werewolf in that series, with him continuing here. This is his premiere solo issue with a cover done by Mike Ploog. This cover is reminiscent of the cover in his first appearance in Marvel Spotlight #2. Currently, there are only 4 books graded at a 9.8 on the CGC census holding an FMV of $24,000. I know that’s too rich for my blood, so if you scoot down some grades you can snag one at a steal. A graded 7.0 has an FMV of $220 but sold recently in February of this year for $169.76.

Marvel Premiere #28 (1st team appearance and origin of the Legion of Monsters: Ghost Rider, Man-Thing, Morbius, Werewolf By Night)

Here is what I consider the precursor of the Midnight Sons, The Legion of Monsters. Every member of the Legion also appears in the Midnight Sons team. That being said, who wouldn’t want to see this group of rag-tag monsters tearing evildoers up! In a 9.8, Marvel Premiere #28 this book fetches a modest $2,050 but a few spots down we see a 9.0 with an FMV of only $200. I can’t see this book skyrocketing, but it is a great grab for the price, especially if you are a fan of the Marvel Monsters.

Werewolf By Night #1 (1st Appearance of Werewolf By Night Jake Lopez)

New times call for a new hero. Enter Jake Lopez, a Native American whose family was cursed just like Jack’s. This series takes a new spin by taking place on Hopi tribal land.  In order to defend his people from a corrupt organization, he must become more; he must become the new Werewolf. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, there has only been one sale recorded on the census. It was a 9.8 sold in December of 2020 for $61. This means there are plenty out in the field for you to snatch up. Seeing the changes in comic culture, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we see Jake in some form or another down the line. Either way, watch for Werewolf by Night # 1/Jake Lopez.

Bottom Line

Right now everyone is jumping on X-Men and Fantastic Four keys. So get out of that red ocean and take a dip in the blue, because not many are looking at these keys. This is your time to shine and grab nice keys for a great price. As I always say, deals can always be made if you just take the time to find them.

Till Next Time, Happy Hunting!
