Back-to-School ComicsWith summer dwindling down and stores putting out their fall collections, that can mean only one thing - school is starting again soon! Comics and school do go hand in hand, and these back-to-school comics are affordable and might even yield you a return later on! So pack your books and don't be late, these books won't be around forever.

Archie at Riverdale High #1

This Bronze age Archie book might not appear to be much to the untrained eye, but this book was a fresh step for Archie Comics. While a majority of Archie Comics being published at the time took a lighthearted approach, this series usually included at least one serious story per issue.

The book also focused on the other students and faculty at Riverdale High, and not just our core five. First copies of this book in raw condition routinely sell around the $50 mark, making this an underrated yet affordable Bronze Age Archie key.

As far as graded copies go, the most recent sale of this book took place on Mar 19, 2021, with a CGC 9.4 going for a fixed-price $520.00 on eBay. This was the only 9.4 listed in the CGC census. In fact, there are only 10 books CGC graded 8.0 and above and only 15 books total registered in any grade.

Gotham Academy #1 back-to-school comics

Looking for something more heroic? Gotham Academy takes place right in the Batman universe. Following Olive Silverlock and her friends at the prestigious Gotham Academy, the group becomes detectives of their own.

The school also happens to be right across from Arkham Asylum, an ideal place for an expensive private school.

This Modern book in CGC blue label 9.8 sells for over $100+ easily (in fact, 9.8s are currently trending up by 140%), but lower grade copies fare much worse.

This book could become something in the DCEU at some point, so now might be the time to invest in this otherwise fantastic series.

Hi-School Romance #1

Harvey Comics has seen a bit of a popularity increase these past few years -- be it from nostalgic collectors, or collectors looking for something different. This Golden Age series captured what it might have been like to be a teenage girl in 1949, making this an extremely fun (and sometimes informative comic) to read.

The first issue features a photo cover, something that was popular with slice of life (and even some pulp hero) books. This pre-code series also featured some of the best late Golden Age Good Girl Art. Raw copies of the first issue sell for around $120, while other books in the series range in price.

There is not a lot of sales data for graded copies of this book. With several years between sales, it's worth taking notice of the CGC graded 5.5, which auctioned on eBay in 2013 for a measly $5.50 after two bids.  This same book sold at Heritage for $79 in 2020.  While the numbers a small, the growth is real.
