1979 Marvel Micronauts #1 is my top speculation pick for both 2019 and 2020 for both short term and long term growth. Featuring Baron Karza (Background Cover) Acroyear,  Arcturus Rann, Marionette, and Bug (left to right).  Go Collect shows it up 43% in 9.8 CGC in the last 100 sales and has it up to #87 on the hottest comics list (up 791 spots). This is a key Bronze Age issue with a ton of upside potential. This trend is only just beginning and here is why.

Micronauts were derived from the Japanese toy line Microman by Takara. First released in Japan in 1974 the toy line was the first 3.75" figures and they were interchageable. The toy line took Japan by storm. In 1976 the US imported the line and it was licensed by the Mego Corporation as the Micronauts. The toy line was highly successful and Marvel Comics introduced the story line in 1979. It ran for 59 issues and 2 annuals in it's initial run. Written by Bill Mantlo with art by Michael Golden, Dave Cockrum, Sal Buscema, and Al Milgrom. This was arguably Bill Mantlo's best storyline he ever created. Mantlo was the one who persuaded Marvel to purchase the comic book rights in the first place. He fell in love with them when his son received the action figures as a Christmas gift and wanted to create a story line that went with them.

Fast forward to 2009 and Hasbro acquires the rights to the Micronauts toy line and are teaming up with JJ Abrams and Paramount Pictures to develop a live action movie version of the franchise. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick  were hired on as writers. Paul Wernick was quoted as saying "We've written a couple of drafts of Micronauts and it's in the Paramount system now. We developed it with Bad Robot, and it's probably not what you might imagine a Micronauts movie would be. However, it's very, very different and very, very cool." These characters are not as well known so creatively sky is the limit on what they can create. Bad Robot is a huge up and coming production team with JJ Abrams at the helm.

In November 2015 Paramount announced it was planning a Micronauts Movie (Still in production). Hasbro and Paramount reportedly are creating their own movie universe combining Micronauts, GI Joe, Visionairies: Knights of the Magical Light, M.A.S.K., and ROM. The long production time was used to set up the new universe and it is expected to be spectacular and rival Marvel's. With Bad Robot and JJ Abrams this is sure to be something for the ages. In addition to the 2020 live action movie release date Hasbro and Boulder Media Limited have teamed up to bring a new animated tv series in 2019 to bring in a new generation of fans and freshness to the series.

Since the announcement that the film was back on the table and there was a scheduled release date of October 2020 this comic has shown fantastic growth. With a CGC 9.8 running $150 in October of 2018 this book has started its upward trend and now runs $240 on average up to a high of $300 realized at auction on Ebay recently. If both the Animated series in 2019 and the live action movie in 2020 are a hit (and they will be) I can see a 9.8 in 2020 going for a hefty premium. The added bonus is this is Marvels Bug's first appearance which is an added area of growth potential. With 4 decades of toy lines, comics, tv series, manga magazines and movies spanning both the US and Japan there is a huge area of growth potential. Micronauts #8 (1st appearance of Captain Universe) would be the other key issue. Pick these up now while you still can afford to.
