The Captain Marvel buzz is here and boy can you feel it on the market.  Everything from Mar-Vell to Carol Danvers and every character in-between is getting a fresh set of attention from speculators and collectors alike.  Ms. Marvel #1 has doubled in a year.  Avenging Spider-Man #9 is one of the hottest comics on the market.  However, the complexities of a character like Captain Marvel leaves endless possibilities for the direction that character may take in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).  I pointed out the rapid climb of Monica Rambeau and now I am looking at the alternate identity of Carol Danvers that is peaking interests and prices...Binary!

Binary is an alternate version of Carol Danvers.  Due to those nasty Brood aliens, she is a gene-manipulated cosmic-powered mutate that has the power to tap all energies of white holes.  Binary is part of a multi-persona offering by Danvers over her time in the Marvel Universe. Her other personas include Miss Marvel, Captain Marvel, and Warbird.  The Binary character made her first appearance in, and on the cover of, Uncanny X-men #164 in 1982.  Fair Market Value (FMV) for this book, at 9.8, is listed at $300, but copies on the open market are going for well over $300 consistently, with Newsstand copies going for a premium as well.  New listings are trying to bait buyers with $700 price tags.  If you are lucky, there is even a Canadian variant that exists...and it is A Canadian variant in 9.8...so congrats if you own the one graded copy out there.

We are all aware that Carol Danvers and her Captain Marvel persona are coming to the MCU.  However, why is there such a bubble of hype outside of the main character?  We have not witnessed this much speculation about a Marvel film, especially with untested or ancillary characters, I don't think ever!  The time warp factor, in my estimation, is the reason that speculation around this film is so high.  Possibilities are endless and the market is reacting.  I, for one, am very curious to see how Marvel handles the Captain Marvel movie and it's forward ties to Avengers: End Game and then extending into the Phase 4 movies.

Is there a likelihood of Binary actually showing up in the MCU?  Yes...although it is more of a long-shot.  If Binary was the ultimate solution for Carol Danvers, Marvel sure is wasting a lot of effort and money to promote the idea of Captain Marvel.  This would also be too similar to the Jean Grey/Phoenix storyline that the X-men movies have beaten into the ground over the past (what seems like 30) few years.  Binary is not the fresh direction that Marvel should be pursuing.  And although older X-men titles are great for any collection, I don't believe that the Captain Marvel hype alone, with a lack of the character Binary, will be enough to help sustain this comic's rapid gains.  I expect this title to warm slightly until settling back down to Earth.  Though now may be a great time to get in on the hype and sell.
